Mission:
To develop in our students a keen eye, an inquisitive mind and an expressive nature towards visual art

Students will observe their surroundings and respond to what they see through their ideas and imaginations on their artworks. |
Students will express their ideas, thoughts, experiences and feelings through discussion, writing and artworks using a variety of art elements and techniques. |
Students will acquire visual inquiry skills and use appropriate art vocabulary to describe, interpret and appreciate the role of art in life. |
The school engages students in a meaningful way, providing stimulating platforms and opportunities for the understanding of and appreciation for the visual arts. Character and leadership development together with the acquisition and application of social and co-operative lifeskills are also our focus.
Students who develop a special interest or are talented in specific areas are given further opportunities to specialise and develop these talents. In these areas, Zhenghua students will be guided towards excellence at both the national and international arena. The Arts Education programme in ZHPS also inculcates national values in our students.
As we embark on our art education journey, we are also mindful of what we want to equip our students with during their six years at the school. We strongly believe that through our rich visual art programme, we will be able to equip our students with the necessary life skills that are pertinent for the 21st Century.
We adopt a modular approach (AE framework), whereby every level will complete a structured programme of the Art modules:
Ø P1 – Basic Elements of Art
Ø P2 – Drawing and Painting; Properties of colours
Ø P3 – Basic Elements of Design & Batik Art
Ø P4 – Digital Art (Collaboration with ICT)
Ø P5 – Introduction to international artists & Ceramic Art
Ø P6 – Understanding the art style and approach of local artists

SYF Art Exhibition
In 2017, our Talent Art students participated in the Singapore Youth Festival(SYF) Art Exhibition. The theme of the exhibition, Artist and Space, invites our student artists to imagine, inquire and discover various ways to interpret the concept of 'space'. In the course of four months, our students engaged in deep discussion and meaningful art processes. Held at The Ground Theatre of SCAPE, the exhibition showcased three of our students' artworks, UP! UP! Up into the Universe, Wonders of Life and Through the Hollow of the Tree.
Extended Exhibition

Primary 2 SYF Artwork

These budding artists have an immense amount of imagination exploring the different possibilities of what they can find in the universe which they have designed for the life in outer space. It is such a fun process seeing the little ones express their endless creativity on the canvas.

TEACHERS' STATEMENT
Students explored the concept of space through moving around a compound with their eyes closed and developed sensitivity to various art forms and materials in the process. During art making, students observed, analysed and gave personal responses to a range of topics. They have been spontaneous and expressive throughouts as they developed the ideas, feeling and imagination.

ARTIST STATEMENT
How do we perceive space? Do we solely see the physical space or can it extend beyond our senses? The sculpture, which symbolises the "Tree of Wisdom", invites the viewers to look at it from different angles as they "look into it"[or interact with it].

TEACHERS' STATEMENT
The artists interacted with clay, exploring the techniques and made meaning of how they could best represent space through ceramics. Although the final outcome was beyond their control at its last firing, the artists were undaunted. They took advantage of their learning and went through the process of exploring, appreciating and making meaning of their creation.

SYF Artist Talk
As part of the school's commitment to deepen our students' learning in the visual arts, our students were selected to represent the school and its Talent Art CCA in the SYF Artist Talk. The event was held on 6th July 2017 at SCAPE The Ground Theatre. Four Primary 3 & 4 students shared about their SYF artwork, Wonders of Life, and collaborated with students from their primary schools to create an art piece. It was a great experience for our students as they learnt and shared their artistic journey with like-minded people who hold passion for the arts.

Selina Toh, shared their artwork at the Artist Talk.
